Over the years, many Crossroads items have been released. Sadly, most of them are now no longer easy to obtain, things like the 1966 "Carlos Roasting Dish" the 1977 "Motel Board Game" and the Jigsaw puzzles from 1978 are all sadly long since discontinued. We do suggest, however, for those kind of items that you check out Ebay the online auction website. The only other place such "deleted" items will be located are car boot sales and the like. Don't despair, just because many of the items released during the series' long run are no longer on general sale - it doesn't mean there isn't anything to buy! Below we've brought you some of the current Crossroads items that are still easy to perchase online, or in-store. If you know of any other items from the soap that should be included, you can email us. Please note (unless stated as so) we are not personally selling any of the items listed below, and we cannot promise they will be currently in stock or on sale at the stated price. |

CD - Crossroads Motel - How May I Help? Memories of the classic British Serial Drama Crossroads come alive in this newly restored radio feature, now available for the very first time. Stars of the original series remember the hard work, and the fun times, they had producing the Birmingham based ITV soap opera. "It was an assault course rather than a show!" Tony Adams, star of both the 2001 and original versions of Crossroads, has fond memories of working on the programme in the 1970's and 1980's. Television production has always been hard work, but never more so that when you were trying to record a four or five episodes of a soap opera in a working week. Days were long and production was frantic, but meticulously organized. "We used to start on a Friday, we used to block five episodes on a Friday, so we used to try and finish doing two by lunchtime, break for an hour, and come back and do three in an afternoon. Then Monday we had two runs, we used to run the whole five episodes for the technician in the morning, and then in the afternoon for the producer" Jane Rossington, who played Jill Richardson for the entire original run, has vivid memories on how tight the time was, how finding clothes to wear on the programme was always difficult, and how the 'as-live' nature in the early days create real tension, and sometimes fear, on the studio floor. The CD also provides an interesting insight to the legend that is the late Noele Gordon, as seen from a personal view by Jane and Tony. This ten-minute radio documentary, with exclusive specially recorded interviews with Jane Rossington and Tony Adams remembers and pays tribute to the original series. Made for a student and community radio station in the Midlands in 1998, this rare, interesting and professional programme is a new and exciting addition to your collection. As a bonus, the feature has also been remastered to give the best sound quality, and the CD also contains the raw, unedited interviews with Jane Rossington (24 minutes) and Tony Adams (12 minutes). In order to get hold of a copy all you need to do is send a CD and a SAE with the correct postage. For more information or to order your copy please contact: Andy Waterfield, Producer of Crossroads Motel Can I Help You; Email Andy Review written by Andy Waterfield. This CD is the copyright of Andy Waterfield and is an independent production. |

Book - The Crossroads Story In 2001 to celebrate the "return" of Crossroads to ITV screens, Carlton Books published "The Crossroads Story" which looked mainly at the original series, but also included the brand-new 2001-2002 incarnation. Publicity: The Crossroads Story tells fans everything they ever wanted to know about Crossroads past and present. As well as profiling the new arrivals and exploring how and why the show has been revived, the author turns back the clock to take a witty and entertaining look at motel life during the previous series' run of over 4500 episodes. Geoff Tibballs steps through the walls to recount the on and off screen dramas of the cult series and to recall the halcyon days of Benny, Diane and Starry the goat. Review: This book has been criticised by some hard-core fans for its occasional factual errors (some of the captions mis-identify people of minor importance, for instance) but in my view this book is an absolute must for any Crossroads fan. Geoff Tibballs gives us a history of the programme, a year by year guide to Crossroads, magic moments, a who's who and much more. The book is packed with pictures and facts that even the most ardent fan will have forgotten about, or perhaps never even known! Most of the 144 pages are dedicated to the old series with the new incarnation of Crossroads covered in a couple of chapters at the end. Review By Daniel Landsberger, February 2002. |

Book - TV Times, Supersoaps In 1988 the TV Times issued the long 'discontinued' Supersoaps book. As it was being written Crossroads came to an end, so its section looks at the demise of a mighty soap opera as it was happening. Publicity: "A must for all soap addicts! What goes on behind the scenes of the soap operas? What are the stars really like? This revealing look at soap operas delves behind the scenes of television's best loved programmes. Covering the most popular series: Coronation Street, Crossroads, Dallas, Dynasty, Brookside, Emmerdale Farm, Neighbours and EastEnders. The authors tell how the shows got started, give little known details on the actors and actresses - and share the backstage gossip." Short Excerpt: "Do you believe in ghosts? Tony Adams didn't - until the Crossroads actor began sensing the presence of his good friend Noele Gordon, who had died in 1985. The strange feelings intensified until, feeling Noele's spirit very strongly outside the Crossroads rehearsal room, Tony said 'Hello, darling.' .." Crossroads is covered over 14 pages, and also features in many other sections later on in the book too. The book also includes many photographs from the TV Times picture library as well as various other facts such as original cast listings and rating figures. Well worth hunting down! Written by Chris Stacey "scholar of Supersoaps" and Darcy Sullivan. TV Times Books. (no ISBN listed on the book, so we assume it doesn't have one.) Review by Ian Westhead, with thanks to Chris Stacey. August 2006. |

Book - TV Heaven TV Heaven is the first book in a long time to tell the story of Crossroads as it really was. The book is well researched and contains nearly 1000 pages of facts and features on some of Britain's most favourite shows. Only 100 however get a in-depth look, and we're pleased to say Crossroads is one of them. So forget the newspapers that knocks the soap and read the way Crossroads really was in this fantastic book. Publicity: "Why did Doctor Who disappear for 16 years? How many people have stepped through the doors of the Big Brother house? What is the single most important children's drama ever broadcast? And why is right now the best time to become a TV addict? Designed for couch potatoes, telly fans and casual viewers alike, this is an unashamedly passionate guide to the most loved, addictive and ground breaking programmes to have hit British screens over the last 50 years. TV Heaven covers just about everything from jaw-dropping reality TV, to the very best in drama, science fiction, comedy and children's programmes, including imports from all over the world. Whether you're after fascinating behind-the-scenes information, a quick check reference or a selection of un-missable treats, this is the guide to feed your TV addiction." Short Excerpt: 'With the closure of the motel on 4 April 1988, and Jill Chance delivering the final line, the gloves came off. What had once been a friendly joke that Crossroads wasn't perhaps the best made show on TV became a simple statement of fact: the programme was rubbish and everyone knew it. Damning, but widely believed to be true by everyone except the viewers who'd loved it through thick and thin." Maybe Network DVD should buy this book and see how to positively make statements about Crossroads instead of fuelling the myths the TV critics created! There are a number of pages dedicated to Crossroads, all with great amounts of information - telling the truth, and how it really was! We love this book! Also, the book gives the website address for our website, so we really love this book! Written by: Jim Sangster and Paul Condon. Publisher: Collins. ISBN: 0-00-719099-9. Book - Crossroads, The Drama Of A Soap Opera In 1980 Dorothy Hobson started researching television production, for a university project, never intending to release a book. However, in the summer of 1981 this all changed with the shock news Noele Gordon wasn't going to be staying on in Crossroads once ATV reformed into Central Independent Television the following year. She had already spent time with the Crossroads cast some months earlier, and had moved onto 'ATV Today' the Midlands' ITV news programme. Dorothy got the best insight to the dismissal of Noele, by being with the ATV Today team when it happened, and continuing to work within ATV on her studies as the whole event unfolded. She decided in 1982, that those events would make for a very interesting book, and the comments made by cast, crew and other staff at ATV at the time are all included in the book. There are interviews with Noele, Jack Barton the producer and even Charles Denton - the man who sacked Noele. The books is possibly the best behind the scenes look at Crossroads you can ever read. With the good and the bad side to the show all thrown into the pot, with Dorothy trying to make some sense of the soap, which was loved by the fans - but hated by the TV industry and newspaper critics. In 2002 a "new version" of the book (simply titled 'Soap Opera') was released, this time with Crossroads becoming a section of the book rather than the entire publication. The new version includes a look at all the other major soaps, including Dallas, EastEnders, Brookside and Emmerdale. Obviously we suggest the original 1982 release for the best look at Crossroads. Book - The Crossroads Years Jane Rossington takes you through a journey of motel history. This official album book was released in 1988 to mark the end of the series. As well as many pictures the book contains the plots, the backstage laughs, the heartaches of the cast and the details of the rise and demise of the soap. Publicity: "For over 23 years Crossroads has been indispensable viewing for millions. From its creation in November 1964 when Lew Grade, then head of ATV, cautiously agreed to the idea of a daily serial. Today Jane Rossington is the only member of the original cast and is therefore in a unique position to chronicle the history of Crossroads. This book contains many amusing stories and anecdotes. In The Crossroads Years we have reproduced over a hundred classic photographs from the official Crossroads picture archives along with personal photographs from Jane Rossington's own collection, seen here for the first time. The Crossroads Years is a superb souvenir of one of Britain's best loved and most famous television programmes." Author: Jane Rossington . Publisher: Weidenfeld and Nicolson Ltd. ISBN: 0 297 79270 9. Book - My Life At Crossroads From 1975, Noele Gordon decided to tell the world about her life at Crossroads, and also before it. Its a interesting little paperback with Noele's rise to fame, and her years at ATV Midlands up to the launch of ITV soap Crossroads. The forword was written by former Prime Minister's wife, and fan of the soap Mrs Mary Wilson. Harold Wilson never revealed if he was a fan, although he did visit the set more than once, so you have to suspect even Prime Ministers watched Crossroads! Publicity hype: "Britain's most popular TV Programme (Daily Telegraph poll), the Worlds first and longest running DAILY serial, Top television personality for over five years running.. ..If further tributes are possible, then this book alone can fill the bill. For here, Noele Gordon - otherwise known as Meg Richardson - discloses all the secrets, the heartaches and the fun behind Crossroads. Crossroads is a religion for over 15 million fans. The show itself has produced a wealth of anecdotes. How Noele was offered a position as manager of a real hotel, how one viewer rang in and warned "Meg" that the motel would be burgled before it happened on tv, and also for Noele in real life! What exactly is fact, and what is fiction is often blurred by the fans, and many of the humorous stories from Noele about such problems are included in this book. She also talks frankly about marriage, and her own failed wedding. But for Crossroads fans the fascinating look behind the cameras is a must. The book is also a poignantly human document from the heart of a woman who so richly deserves the acclaim she has earnt." Author: Noele Gordon. Publisher: Star Books. ISBN: 0352300299. VHS - Classic Crossroads Released to mark the end of the series in 1988, this VHS was re-issued in 1995 to mark the 30th anniversary of Crossroads. The only change was the later video had the introduction by Jane Rossington chopped off, and a new sleeve was created. The first was released by Pickwick Videos in association with Central Video. The second release was produced by NTV, who had previously released the Prisoner: Cell Block H videos. The 1995 release was in association with Central Television Enterprises. Both contained only three episodes, the 1975 wedding edition of Meg and Hugh, the Motel fire in 1981 and Meg Mortimer's final 'proper' episode where she leaves on the QE2. NTV did promise more episodes if this re-release sold, however by the very fact it had already been issued once before meant it didn't sell as well as the 1988 VHS. So no futher episodes were ventured into sadly. Ian Westhead, July 2006. |

VHS - The Best Of Crossroads 1981 A Central Independent Television - Crossroads Appreciation Society - ITC Entertainment Group co-production. In 1989, to celebrate 25 years since Crossroads launched a 'Best Of' series was released via the fan club - and only to fan club members. This included full episodes, many of which have since been re-issued on the Network DVDs. The release also included a 'best of' VHS which focused on the events of 1981. The highlight VHS looks mainly at the departure of Noele Gordon as Meg Mortimer from the seires and also the problems of Ronald Allen's David Hunter and his wife Barbara, played by Sue Lloyd. Due to the VHS being only on-sale to then fan club members it is hard to find these days. However as always we suggest Ebay and car boot sales. Written By Ian Westhead, July 2006. |

Special Feature - The Noele Gordon Rose Not the usual kind of item you'd find listed in the Crossroads Appreciation Society store, however the rose on sale here is a special one. Created in tribute to the late actress a rose flower was grown in Nolly's memory. The good news is you can still get the "Noele Gordon Rose" today (seasonal growing may limit supply) and plant a Nolly in your own garden. I'm sure it could be quite a talking point when you tell other Crossroads fans that you recently bought Noele Gordon and stuck her in your flower bed. The plant is produced by an independent company and has nothing to do with the Crossroads Appreciation Society. You can buy Noele Gordon online at Fibrex or by asking for the rose to be ordered in at your local garden centre. Written By Mike Garrett, July 2004. |
