Welcome, we hope you enjoy your stay. Don't take Crossroads too seriously, the fans don't! However.. Look away now if you're one of those people who compare a daily soap opera to a twice-weekly drama serial. If you understand that for 20 years Crossroads was unique in British broadcasting, then welcome to the motel.

This is the website of the official fan club for Crossroads, the long running British motel based soap opera. Made by ATV and later on Central Independent Television - the show became one of ITV's longest running, and most popular programmes. The series was commissioned by Lew Grade, devised by Peter Ling and Hazel Adair, and the format developed by soap-legend Reg Watson.

There has been plenty said about Crossroads over the years, but no matter what anyone says about it now - at its peak it was one of the most popular daytime programmes ever, and was greatly loved by millions of fans. Crossroads wasn't drama, Lew, Reg and its cast always said the programme was an 'entertainment' series, it didn't take things too seriously, and viewers could join in the fun with their friends 'on the box.'

The show was knocked by critics and those who didn't watch it enough to understand it, but for nearly 20 million viewers the show was a must see daily treat for almost a quarter of a century. Crossroads went nationwide on ITV in 1972, and it was soon only a few thousand viewers behind some prime time series'. During periods in 1976 and 1977 Crossroads was the UK's number one programme, beating all the programmes on BBC and ITV. The show also won numerous awards, as did its stars. For many years the show was the UK's second watched soap-opera. And even when it ended in 1988, it was the UK's third most favourite serial, Emmerdale was forth. This was a daytime soap that reached primetime evening ratings!

The Crossroads Fan Club launched on April 4th 1988 - on the same day as the last-ever episode aired. ITV didn't axe Crossroads, and with 12 million fans still turning on, it seems Crossroads' unfair removal from the network by one 'out of touch' executive has kept its fans united together far more than many other departed programmes. Crossroads is still greatly loved, and much missed. They said in 1988 when the series ended it would be forgotten in eighteen months.. twenty years later in 2008.. its certainly gone, but not forgotten!
