I just noticed in episode 126 from 1965 that Hugh says he's interested in buying the house "a mile down the road", Fairlawns. Its at this point residential.

Yet most books suggest it was always a hotel... and its noted one of the early Sandy stories (in the first fiction book also) that he went into Fairlawns and replaced the salt with the sugar.

Curious.

I will have to take a look at episode 126 again, however I always thought it was a Hotel since it was mentioned a lot in early episodes.

I've always thought that Hugh was the original owner of Fairlawns, and eventually Malcolm Ryder became a board member at Fairlawns.  That is how Hugh & Malcolm were business associates.

In Episode 126 I noticed too that Hugh expressed interest in buying a derelict house, yes, as Mike says, "a mile down the road" called Fairlawns.  Meg then says "Colonel Strakers old house".  I think very likely that Hugh turned "Fairlawns House" into "Fairlawns Hotel"

I have been looking at my books to check the info out what I have about Fairlawns.

I have established as Mike says that in 1965 Sandy and his friend Colin Warboys were accused of stealing from Fairlawns.  Don't forget Sandy was always jealous of Hugh Mortimer having affections for his mother, and if he found out that Hugh bought and turned the house Fairlawns into a Hotel, meaning direct competition with his mother's Motel, that would make him more determined to `get his own back on Hugh'.

Most interesting is within Malcolm Hulke's first novel 'Crossroads - A New Beginning' I found the following sentences, a conversation between Meg, Hugh and Andy Fraser (Meg's brother) (Page 64)

"Andy said `Just a moment.  Aren't you both condemnng Sandy without knowing the truth' ?  He swung round to face Hugh `Those boys only went into your hotel to play a practical joke.  They didn't even break in.  They found a door open."

Then there is a conversation between Meg and Sandy -

"Was it your idea or one of the other boys ?"  "Mine.  I heard Ruth say Fairlawns was taking your business".  Later in the conversation Sandy says to Meg "Is Mr Mortimer angry?".

It really does look like what I thought that Hugh bought Fairlawns House and turned it into Fairlawns Hotel.

So Louise Boreli came later with her dodgy brother, but she's in the show from 1965 when there is the dodgy rape/attacks near the motel that effects 'trade' - which her brother had some connection to if the Central facts are right.

Its so early on its hard to sort it into an orderly fashion.

I don't think Louise Borelli was the owner of Fairlawns.  I know that she was an American lady who was the daughter of one of Hugh's business associates in America.

Yes, Louise did come in Crossroads around 1965 with her dodgy brother Kenneth.  I didn't know about the rapes etc that affected the Motel trade.  But it would be true to his character because he kidnapped Jill, held her hostage in retaliation for Hugh rejecting his sister.  Meg was distressed by the whole matter and called off her engagement to Hugh (1st one).

Louise first came to England to visit motels in her fathers chain, took a fancy to Hugh, but it was all in her head.  Hugh very kindly explained to her on a business trip to America together that she wasn't the one for him.

I have just been looking at the thread `Louise & Kenneth Borelli'.  In that thread I questioned whether she was ever the owner of Fairlawns.  Central could have their facts wrong I suppose.

Maybe her father's chain had "shares" in fairlawns, hence the 'interest' in it, possibly she was given a management role there or such?

It's a funny business because it was so long ago, and not much info around.  But Louise's Dad had a chain of "Motels" not "Hotels", could be a mis-print I suppose, anything is possible.  Maybe Louise's Did did buy into Fairlawns, just like Malcolm Ryder.

Maybe Louise did have a Management role at Fairlawns, anybodys guess, because of no information.

All I know is that Meg was such a forgiving lady and accepted Louise as a Director of Crossroads Motel Limited.  Meg realised that whatever Louise had done i.e. splitting up her & Hugh, that she too had been badly hurt by Hugh's rejection.
