This box-set is going to be absolute bargain for Crossroads fans who haven't been able to buy them on-line. But yes, the did-hard fans will have got somebody else to order them by computer if they haven't got one, so they wouldn't miss out, so yes, I agree there won't be huge sales.
Yes, it is over £300 forked out, alot of money when put like that, I never considered the cost over the 4 years, But I considered it worthwhile when I was buying them, because I wanted my DVD or two every month. And I'd do it again.
I know Coronation St do have 3 different types of box sets 1960's, 1970's & 1980's, all on sale at HMV. I'd love to know if they sell well ?
I have 4 viintage Corrie DVD's 1970/71/72/73/74, but I bought them separately.
I wouldn't have said Corrie was posher you know than Crossroads. I'd have said the opposite, Crossroads was posher, Corrie was more working class in its earlier days. Meg had her sherry, whereas regulars went in The Rovers for Beer etc.

Yes well its just funny how people mock it now as if they can erase the fact it was popular. It was popular, more popular than Corrie. Unfortunately, seems they just can't accept it.
Great amusement of course, because I'm sure it must be a mental disability if you can't understand the Crossroads format - escapist fun with a touch of drama.
He once said it was a show that failed, I can't see how - I think the tick boxes find it more success than failure. Failures generally last less than six months *coughs* MKIII.

I'll never forget that night at Crossroads, when you said 'all good things must come to an end'. And then you smiled. And I knew that you meant it.

Well, Crossroads is down in TV History for top-rated programme for 1976 & 1977, that info can never be erased. Crossroads was an amusing programme, quite fun (Amy Turtle for one) mixed with drama in the 70's before it went on more serious issues end 70's & 80's. I thought Archive 2 & 3 were quite fun in its own way. I think some people `just didn't want to get Crossroads', they preferred to poke fun, without watching it properly and seeing it for what it was, an excellent programme.

Oh I give him credit, he's watched them all. Tune has changed slightly at first it was all about wobbly walls ect, but when that was shown to be more myth than truth it moved onto stories and scripts. Well there are good scripts and stories - a lot wiped of course.
Well it is quite easy to "get" Crossroads. Its not Corrie, its not Brookside or any of those serials. Its as Reg always said, and as its listed in the archive - Entertainment. Its a mixture of American-based soap opera format (The drama side) end that escapist fun light side. Which is pretty unique in British TV.
Made as background television for teatime audiences. I do find it works better to watch it while having ones luncheon..!

I remember the Christmas Day Episode 1979 where Meg sings being shown early, around lunch time. A really happy episode !

Well you can't win, for some its too middle class and posh, and other say its cheap TV!
There is certainly no consistency with the critical stuff. I find it actually amazing they manged to do it as 'good' as they did.
Just look at Corrie, the mistakes! And even the first year or so of Brookside is littered with terrible acting, fluffed lines and things that would be associated to "set" problems such as the street lights don't work for a year, there is no Brookside Close sign for months. You slam a door and the pictures wobble (and these were real houses) and none of the houses have any heating!
So its all a load of twaddle that Crossroads is the worst.

I've been losing interest in Emmerdale lately. I still have it on, but I'm not watching it like I used to. Some characters I think don't suit the `Emmerdale character'. I'm glad it's not just me then !

I agree with you Mike! I love Emmerdale. It's the nearest thing to old Crossroads......OTT storylines, incidental music (occassionaly), sad themes, flashbacks, etc (PLUS Val Pollard!!) Gosh - I never realised Val could speak Geordie as well as POSH! (She's kept the same wig, I noticed)
