Well that episode 'A STITCH IN TIME' was the fifteenth consecutive episode to broadcast in the 1976 evening series, so I understand.
Of course it may have been 'episode 13' but not shown in the original order as each episode was a seperate story and a continuing plot not involved. Although having said that, most drama series with seperate episode stories usually, but not necessarily, have a continuity thread running through them.
I'm beginning to wonder whether the BFI info is accurate. I was hoping episode 13 was from the daytime run as Katherine Luckey said, because it would be two episodes prior to my script and would involve the mystery of the real identity of Janet Smith (Jennifer Daniel) being solved - and, I'm guessing here, the admittance of Ivor Morgan (Windsor Davies) to the Midland General and even Mrs. Hartley's arrival at Maternity...

Well, I have contacted Kathleen Luckey at the BFI who has confirmed that ep 13 was indeed from the evening run and therefore only the first two episodes of daytime General Hospital are archived with them.
Roll on soapbox vol two!!!!!!!

I'll never forget that night at Crossroads, when you said 'all good things must come to an end'. And then you smiled. And I knew that you meant it.

Or preferably a volume with all the existing eps from the daytime run.
Or preferably a volume with all the existing eps from the daytime run.
That would be an absolute dream DJB!! Episode one was great to see (repeatedly, in my case) but with soaps you need to see a run of episodes to get the 'feel' of the production, as we remember there were many classic over the top and dramatic storylines in this- rather tongue in cheek at times- afternoon soap. As Mike said earlier in the thread the 16mm b/w eps could also be included, so at least there would be some sort of continuity of storylines to begin with. Santa has been left with a huge bottle of Costcutter Sweet Sherry and some extra Value Mince Pies in hope...

From what I can see,23 of the first 26 exist(albeit 19 of those as "telerecordings")and another 12 from the daytime run on VT. Would make for a great box set. Then they could release separate volumes for each series of the prime time version.

Agreed, DJB - even though my main fondness and memories are of the daytime series, it would be completist to issue seperately the primetime series' as well.
I must admit, as a fifteen/sixteen year old when the daytime series ended/primetime series started, I was loathe to watch it in the evening format as I disliked the way Derek Scott's theme tune was dropped and it somehow lost it's appeal. Therefore I cannot remember anything of the primetime episodes but would be VERY interested to see them now, particularly as a handful of the original cast were kept on and the stories were essentially one-offs. Ratings-wise, the programme did really well in the primetime slot - even though often shown in the summer months. Actually, I'd be interested to see A STITCH IN TIME as apparently it involves Parker-Brown needing surgery and none of his colleagues being willing to pick up the scalpel!

Yes,I was also disapppointed when they changed the theme and the format, but remained a fan. As they've already released three volumes of EW10,I'd be surprised if we don't get a GH release soon.

I'm another fan of the daytime soap - AND the theme music! The night-time series sounded more like The Sweeney starting! And the compact stories made it non-soap, and more of a weekly drama......which it was, I suppose. Did it end happily with Adam....sorry, Neville Bywater's wedding? That's the last I remember of it.

Well I could virtually recite episode 1 of GH as I've watched it so much on the DVD! Which gave me an idea... ...using soundbites from the audio of the very first episode, I have compiled a virtual episode TWO for those of us eager for more daytime GH. Newly admitted Leonard Tate is seen on the ward by Dr Armstrong and later his still worried mother who will need some re-assurance of her own;Albert Unsworth returns to the ward after a successful hernia operation and Parker-Brown checks on his wound; Dr Thorne returns for his meeting with Dr Armstrong but bumps into Dr Ridge in the corridor and a sarcastic spat ensues; Baxter introduces Parker-Brown to a patient of Dr Ridges - the irritating Peggy Finch; The 'mystery woman', still confused, is referred by Dr Baxter to Dr Armstrong who decides to admit her to hospital. In part two, the 'mystery woman', newly admitted finds herself a sitting duck in the day room at the mercy of Miss Finch; The moody Casualty nurse takes a telephone call regarding the 'mystery woman'; Sister Chapman apologises to Dr Ridge; Dr Thorne arrives at Dr Armstrong's office for his arranged meeting with him; Miss Finch corners Mrs Lawrence outside the lifts; Dr Armstrong has some sarcasm of his own for Dr Thorne; Dr Baxter assists Parker-Brown in Casualty and a distracted Dr Ridge appears in need of re-assurance; Dr Thorne agrees with Dr Armstrong to come back next week to see Leonard Tate; Miss Finch introduces herself to Mrs Tate...at the lifts; a bouyantly healthy Albert Unsworth introduces himself to Leonard Tate and a familiar face enters the ward.... http://www.4shared.com/mp3/6tDlCSa3/18_GENERAL_HOSPITAL__EPISODE_T.htmlEnjoy!
