I couldn't have been more than five years old. At the time, I couldn't understand why, when a hypnotic but now so familiar theme tune came out of that funny box in the corner, my mother became distracted and less interested in me. The same thing happened later in the evening, when that programme with the smokey chimneys and the hairnetted lady came on.

Anyway, I digress. I had to find out what was grabbing my mother's attention, so one day I joined her at the funny box to see a very nice lady mummy called 'Meg Richardson', mowing down a postman in her car, complete with shot of a well crafted heel on the car pedals (Or was that 'Whatever Happened to Baby Jane'?) In what seemed like the very next day, the nice lady had been thrown in the slammer!

From that point I needed to know what happened to the Meg Richardson lady. Never was I to do what the other boys did. Never was I to play football or cowboys and indians. My only purpose from that young age was to acquire my own motel and have alcoves just like Meg's.

(Gay dear? Who dear? Me dear? .... Ooh no dear!)

What are your earliest Crossroads memories, and had you been weaned off rusks at the time?

My earliest Crossroads memory is of Sandy Richardson lying in a hospital bed after his car accident.

I know the episode was broadcast 1972, but because my Region was up to 1 year behind ATV, then it could well have been 1973 when I saw it.

I know it's difficult to date these things because of the way the ITV regions used to play with Crossroads. I'm not sure what year the Meg incarceration was. I was in the HTV region when I saw it.

The love affair between Meena Chaudry and Dennis Harper was quite a big story in 1977.  It involved racism.  Meena's parents were Indian and did not approve of their daughter going out with a White English lad.  Most of the story is wiped, but a couple of episodes towards the end of the storyline exist in Archive 6.  The conclusion of the storyline, when Meena chooses to marry Dennis, rather than go to India with her parents, the consequence being that she is disowned by her Mother, is on Archive 6.

There is another episode that survives not on the DVD, because no one can find the master. But it was again released by CAS in 1989, so some lucky people may have it.

I have one Pickwick VHS released by CAS in 1989.  I bought it in Woolworths, just by chance I saw it on the shelves.  Woolies had a special shelf, a one-off for a couple of weeks with just Soaps.  The 3 episodes on the Video are Meg's Wedding, The Fire, Meg on QE2.

Looks like I missed some other releases.

Yes thats the general sale issue. I think its re-issue has the fan club address on the back to get more members LOL.

There were some however where you had to order direct through the fan club to buy from Central. IT was to make it cheaper as apparently that way there was no BBFC extortionate fees. Smiley

Oh, I see.

But it's funny that you mention the fan club address, because I tried writing to that address, not right away, a couple of years later ? and got my letter returned by the Postman, not known at this address.

So I did try !

Yes even Birmingham Central Library have the old address I did try to update it..

Difficult to update it everywhere. I have just been given a nice letter from what seems to be an elderly lady asking for photos of Paul Ross.

So I'll sort that next week, so luckily some people are getting through these days.

I've just been checking out my Video.  Not looked at it for ages.

I actually have a `Classic Crossroads' Video.  Not Pickwick, as I first thought.  Written on the inscription, it says previously released by Pickwick.

The address on the back was to Apartments in Bournemouth.

If I had received a reply, I would almost certainly have joined CAS, but not to worry, years later, I got here. !!   Smiley Wink Cheesy Grin

I am surprised at Central Library, but at least you tried.

Although these days, through the internet, the address is probably more accessible.  Nice to hear about the old lady.  She probably has a relative who got the address for her.
