Typical unusual Crossroads type thing, one of the reasons we all love it!

Well the format with the incidental music and this use of imagery or odd flashbacks and such is one reason I like it.

And yes Mr Ross, buy early to save dosh!

Working my way through this set - enjoying it a great deal. Just watched #2013 and had to comment on the bizarre set choice for Stan and Jill's newly furnished flat. Diane is apparently green with envy at the Harvey's new carpet, but all I could see was this grass-green abomination and there are Stan and Jill sitting in what look like metal garden chairs. It looks like an indoor garden. Bizarre!

From her previous 'one wall only' house on the Feb DVD.

I liked the hallway of the block of flats.. very realistic, other than they had lights working, no broken windows and no graffiti on the walls.

The following episode (#2014) has quite a nice scene between Amy and Mrs Whitton (did she have a first name? Everyone seems to call her Mrs...). Dear old Ann George normally stumbles over dialogue with reckless abandon (although you can't help but love her), but she plays the scene exceptionally well.

Ah, thanks. It sounds familiar, so maybe I had noticed it in an episode and forgot it or I read it on the CAS site.

Actually, that's given me an idea for a new thread...

I'm a bit mystified about the date of episode 1976, the first in a sequence of six from September 1973 included on Volume 4. If this is the correct date I wonder why there are such references as "later in the year when the weather's warmer" and "you must go there in the summer"? This suggests the episode takes place around March, but that would mean every episode from 1973 has been dated incorrectly. Can anyone explain please?

A very pertinent question. I wonder what the explanation is?

Some of the eps contained on volume 3 were excellent! Again I was frightened by the appearence of Mrs Loomis.  That dyed hair! and butch demeanor not to mention a slightly lesbian glint in her eye for Amy! (I'm sure not true!) I thought Reg Watson's epsiodes were very good indeed and talk about funny! The 'Ronnie' scenes were for me amongst the best I've ever seen. I laughed aloud! and I think there was a wee bit of add libbing (more so than usual!) Sandy saying: re Amy 'she does a clog dance! and 'I operate her with my left hand'.!!!! weren't Amy and Miss Tatum wonderfully funny! what a great double act. Miss Tatum obviously NOT playing the violin! Pity we will be seeing less of them in the following discs. Interesting to see Tom Logan or rather the actor Kevin Brennan make an appearence. He would, years later, arrive at the motel as an old love of Doris Luke's.

And Mrs Witton!!!! why she had to invade every scene!!!??? I rather expected her to climb into one of Meg's VATS of sherry and meet someone swimming around and for them to swim over to her and ask her. . . . . . . .

ARE YOU ALL RIGHT?!!!!!!!!!!!

And seeing Carl Wayne! who would later romance and marry Diane in real life.

I noticed a writer 'Tommy Rushton' again - wasn't that Edward Clayton? as I think I read he was a writer on and off and maybe the story with him and Jill going to visit Issac was his?

Interesting review, as that seems to be what 'none regular' fans/viewers seem to knock about it.

I know everyones taste is different, but I do find it interesting the total opposite ends of a scale Crossroads opinions can go about one episode.

Some of the eps were very good and often surreal. Has there been a soap now or then that was as unlike a soap?

No true, I guess thats why 'many' don't 'get it' and miss the fact what you see is very much what you get - and what up to in its peak 18 million wanted!

Its not quality, its Crossroads. And for its time quite unique, which I think is why its popularity goes on to even today.

It could have been like the new Dr Who when it returned and been amazing - had they made it with the original premise, sadly Carlton and TV today is far too safe to take such risks - then again they took a risk with the awful camp version - so maybe if they'd let it be 'Crossroads' and not some 'new soap with its name' things might be different now.

Your review of the episodes was spot on Mr Ross. What can one say about these Archive releases, they're an absolute joy to watch :-) Sandy's ad libs during Carl Wayne's bizzarre appearance really made me laugh. Such a lovely fella, Roger Tonge. Shame he passed away so young. Odd that Jill never mentions him in later years. There's not even a photo of him or Meg on the sideboard @ Chimneys.

Anyway, I can only hope that over the next few months we get to see:

More Amy Turtle (although this appears unlikely, sadly)
More Miss Tatum
More "Mad" Rosemary Hunter
More Mrs Whitton and by the time we get to the 80's... bring on Valerie Pollard!  Cool great fun to watch! She's clearly having loads of fun

Step back in time, I do like how Crossroads did things like this, back we go from this scene to..

Noele looks genuinely moved there. Happy days.

And yes, I'm going through the old messages ....
