Alan Coleman, who directed Crossroads in the Reg Watson days, followed Watson back to Oz, and became producer on Watson's The Young Doctors. On the new TYD DVD available in Oz, Coleman gives an audio commentary to one of the episodes. The commentary occasionally mentions Crossroads, but also speaks with fascinating affection for the five-day, low-budget soap production model, used by both shows. I can heartily recommend the DVD.

I wonder if he'd do an interview with CAS... we've tried to grab Reg Watson, but he's very hard to get hold of being retired and bored of television.

I'll never forget that night at Crossroads, when you said 'all good things must come to an end'. And then you smiled. And I knew that you meant it.

He seemed really enthusiastic to talk about his work on the DVD. He mentions Crossroads a couple of times, including the process of filming scenes in order (which was also done on TYD). He speaks of TYD with great affection - and the comments regarding the cheapness of TYD made me think so much of the way Crossroads was filmed.

Why not try contacting Umbrella (who released the DVD)? I contacted them after the first TYD DVD with episode suggestions for volume 2, and the producer of the DVDs replied within a couple of days!

Here's the email address. Try popping The Young Doctors DVD in the subject line...

I suppose they might be helpful if I promise to plug their DVD of it on the website.
