What's yer fav Carry on and least fav? I love Cabby, Cleo, Cowboy, Camping, Henry, At Your Convenience.
Plonkers: Loving, Matron, Dick, England and Emmannuelle.
Camping:
Hawtrey (To young girl walking down a road with a cow) Oh, hello.
Girl: Hello.
Hawtrey: Now what's a nice girl like you doing with that old cow?
Girl: I'm taking her to the bull sir.
Hawtrey: Couldn't your father do that?
Girl: Oh no, it has to be the bull!
-------------------------------
Betty Marsden: (On her bike and shouts to Hawtrey as she passes him) Keep off the road! Keep off the road!
Hawtrey: Why madam, what have you done!

Oh there are so many good ones it's hard to pick an absurlote favourite but I guess up there would be Carry On Up The Kyber, Carry On Abroad and Carry On Camping.
Not so good were Carry On Jack, Carry On Sergeant and Carry On England.

I wasn't so fussed about any of the later ones such as England and as for Columbus... YUK!!!
I think Screaming is possibly my favourite or maybe Cleo.

Freeman's utterly beautiful and rather easy-on-the-eye co-Bargee.
(I cannot accept any responsibility for Daniel's actions, especially when he upsets people)

Screaming, Abroad and Sergeant (Good old Mad Billy Hartnell!) are my top three.
There is, Im afraid, only Columbus that I cannot stumoch. Unless "...London" should ever see the light of day, which seems unlikely with the death of Mr.Rogers.

My favourites were always the hospital ones too, with Hattie Jacques as Matron! I also loved Carry on Cowboy and Screaming. The sixties ones were always the best in my eyes. PS: This weekend...Carry On Screaming - ITV 1, Saturday afternoon @ 1.50pm, and Carry On Again Doctor, Sunday evening @ 5.30pm.

The 1959 to 62 Carry On's had a more 'gentle' humour. From about 63/64 this went up several notches (which includes Screaming) and from 67/68 till 75 they were very 'bawdy' and funnier. From 75 till the end in 78 they were pretty near the knuckle and not funny. Difficult to believe the main regulars were paid the same fees in the 70s as they were in the late 50s.
Can't remember which of the Carry On's the following is from: Abroad?
Sid: Mine's a large one.
Barbara: Are you boasting again?

Favourites: Cabby, Cowboy, Cleo, Screaming, Up the Khyber.
Not so keen on Jack, England, Emmanuelle.
Favourite line: Carry on Dick: Hattie Jacques as housekeeper to Sid James, in reference to bed warming pan:
'But Reverend, where would you be without me to put in for you?

Ah the great Hattie Jacques...criminally underused really in the Carry On films. She was capable of so much more.

Hattie was my favourite. She had wonderful timing and delivered double entendres so innocently, which made them even funnier.

Charles Hawtrey's last film was Abroad in 72 - the producers became increasingly concerned by his constant drinking and as these films had the tiniest of budgets anything that hampered production was given the heave ho! and the actors were very badly paid. Although in the early days - up to about 72 they produced two films in a 12 month period so this may have made up for it. Regardless, director Gerald Thomas and producer Peter Rogers were adored by all the team.

I think Carry on Abroad was a parody of Charles's drinking, because his character was also drinking his head off too !
