Nice to see he's listed (rather than the usual Chris Tate Emmerdale being listed or worse that horror from Eldorado.)

Shame the facts are a little bit squiffy on our Roger.

What about all the other soap firsts in Crossroads though, the main regular black character in 1969 (played by Cleo Sylvestre)? or the rape of Glenda or the downs girl?

Tut tut MSN, but nice try.

Having looked on Rex, as that is whom its credited to (I always fancied a nice big version of that photo, sad I know darling) its unfortunately a scan from the actual TV Times magazine and not the master photo.

Not that I want to worry anyone darling, but when Rex have to resort to TV Times scans its a bit on the 'oh dear' side.

I believe Roger Tonge had no problem whatsoever with walking. He had 'Hodgkins disease' (?) some sort of cancer of the blood?
They only kept him in the wheelchair to be realistic, and not make a miracle-recovery like other soaps do.

Oh the TV Times can't have lost Meg's wedding photos! That would be like the TV Times losing Ken and Dreary's wedding photos!

Well they imply his illness was it the reason he was put in the wheelchair to start with. Doh.

Erm, I don't know about why he was in the wheelchair towards the end but apparently he did *need* it more than not. It could be there was more to it than publically noted? - however I guess his cause of death on the certificate may reveal more. Or maybe it was just all the medication/lack of energy that made him weak..?

Still at least, as stated, he was included.

I'll never forget that night at Crossroads, when you said 'all good things must come to an end'. And then you smiled. And I knew that you meant it.

Just a quick note on this thread, but it would have been Roger's 66th birthday today, 30th Jan, wonder what he would have looked like today? well we will never know now I guess.
Roger (his middle name) was also in a film called "Catch Me Going Back" but it looks like it's been wiped forever. Cry

Wow, 66.  It's hard to imagine Roger as a 66 year old.  I'm sure he still would have looked about 20 Gof bless him.

I agree Jean, think the same about Jane Rossington.

I know she got under her eyes tucked in the 80s,she was very honest about it but she looks great.

Jane looks very good for her age. And isn't in need of anything to make her look plastic.

Agreed, She never seems to age at all, wouldn't mind getting hold of whatever cream it is she's using. And to think that now I suppose she's even older than her TV mother. Shocked
