That's the one where Jill suspects he's got another woman, isn't it?  He was a naughty boy was our Hugh.  If he hadn't passed on, I wonder how long his marriage to Meg would actually have lasted.  I'm sure he'd have been found out eventually.

Poor Meg - she really didn't have a lot of luck with men, did she?

Aston, you see Jill had already seen him with `the other woman'.  He apparently left his reading glasses behind when he was due to fly out somewhere.  Jill went after him, saw him at the airport, but instead of boarding the plane, he walked off. with woman.  Jill was left with a puzzled expression on her face.  Then the closing credits came on.  I remember that episode.  Shame it is missing.  His explanation was that Anita was his solicitor and she was doing work for him.  Jill followed Hugh around for a bit and discovered he was being followed by a private detective.  Again she told Meg, but Meg wasn't having any of it, she believed Hugh's explanation. It all came to light when he had his heart attack, just after Boxing Day.  Meg was informed by Anita !

Hugh also made a play for Sandy's girlfriend Vicky.  Vicky was Meg's secretary, and he moved her into the cottage without asking Meg first.  You can imagine Meg wasn't best pleased.  But Hugh got his way, and she stayed !

I thought Meg & Hugh were a fantastic couple, but Hugh just went after other women.  Producers didn't want perfect marriage I suppose, and also to make it more entertaining for viewers.

WOW!!!!  Maria, thank you so, so much for that background info.  I knew Hugh set out to be the charmer, but, my goodness, he was discgraceful!  Like you say, it's a great pity that those episodes no longer exist, so having those gaps filled in really helps.  I agree, Meg and Hugh were a great couple together, but it's a pity he couldn't keep himself to himself!  As you say, though, it makes their marriage a lot more interesting!  It would have been nice to have had all his chickens come home to roost - that would have been one heck of a confrontation, and as we have discussed on the board in another thread, John Bentley definitely brought the best out in Nolly, so that would have been a huge scene!

But Aston, I loved Hugh even more, I don't know why, when he eyed up the other women.  I remember seeing in the TV Times for Crossroads Listings 1977 "Meg & Hugh have a Showdown".  That was over Vicky, the secretary.  So if anynone has back issues for 1977, it will be there !  So they definitely did have their barneys, but like all loving couples they made it up at the end, in time for the end credits !!

I must admit although I remember Jill goling to the airport, and seeing Hugh with Anita, I couldn't remember what it was Hugh left behind.  I waited for it to appear on DVD, but missing.  So, I looked in Jean's diaries, and found out it was the reading glasses.

What is it they say about love, Maria?

So they definitely did have their barneys, but like all loving couples they made it up at the end, in time for the end credits !!

With a few bottles of sherry being sunk along the way, I suspect!!   Grin

I really ought to print of Jean's diaries to fill in the blanks between those "orphaned" episodes on the DVDs!  Desole, ma petite!!

All I can say Aston is Hmmmmmmmmmmm !!  I know Nolly said in her book that every time John looked at her she just melted !  I know what she mean't !  Smiley  They couldn't have Hugh nasty because that would get on the wrong side of the viewers.  Even when he was after Vicky, (I have mentioned this on another thread) they were ballroom dancing around the cottage, Hugh went to kiss Vicky, but at the moment, he clutched his chest, and collapsed.  This was after his second heart attack.  He told Vicky to get his medication, adn made her swear not to tell Meg.  This would be one of Hugh's last storylines.

As to their barney in 1977 over Vicky, you know I don't recall them drinking !!  Just at each other, slanging match, until declaring their love for one another, kiss & make up, then credits rolled up.  Ahhhhhh !!

If you are wondering what Vicky looks like, Mike had a picture of her on the old CAS site, he had an interview with the actress Judy Matthieson.  And if you are wondering what Anita looks like (other woman from 1975) there is a picture of Hugh (in his dressing gown) holding her hand in Goodbye Meg book.  There is no caption to the photo, so unless you know the storyline, you are in lumber !

I think Carney's heard about what goes on on my barge of an evening:

From Episode 2886:
Carney:  "They always work in pairs."
Jane:  "Who?"
Carney:  "Dicks!"   Shocked Shocked Shocked
