We're currently trying to find these for the 'motel' for the 45th next year. Now I know in the 1990s you could still buy them - but the past few years they've been replaced with the more trendy versions that just don't look as cheap.

However I've just seen a short bit of the Girls Aloud show on ITV and they have one, in that old style. So I was wondering if anyone knows anywhere they're on sale.

There are plenty of aluminum versions, but you can't put strings of lights on those, so it needs to be the good old cheap and cheerful plastic tinsel versions.

Long shot, but thought it worth a go. I would have asked the ITV Duty Office, but they don't know what day of the week it is, so not worth the cost of the call.

What an intriguing post Mike... can't help but curious as to why you're trying to find one "for the Motel". Is there something afoot CAS-wise for the 45th Anniversary? (& don't give me any of this "We're not doing anything, let f*cking Network do it!" as there's clearly something afoot...

You can still buy them as your best bet would be Woolsworth - if yours is still open - or Wilkensons or markets.

I had a look, they're all the small 2 or 3 ft ones. We need the 5/6ft version. Most of the silver ones now look very nice, with all the branches on like the green ones. We're needing those cheap one arm of tinsel version.

45th.. yes well we can't leave it all to others. We have joined up with another soapy site to hopefully do something interesting for fans. Network DVD are of course most welcome to be involved, I think the death of Kathy Staff has changed my battle stance, life is far too short to be right - and to keep pointing that out - so the more the merrier.

They make them in Gold and Sliver, the ones in the 1960s/70s style. No white version.

Ooh. Seems the TV people can still get them.

Well I can get one I've discovered in lovely Lime Green, not sure Meg would approve of that. But it is 7ft.

They do plenty of them in 3ft!

I guess I'm not surprised that they're out of fashion currently, but with the 1970s decor being back in style you'd think the trees would be too.

The co-op stores used to have them up until they closed a few years ago.

I wonder if this is in all Wilkinson's!  I'm sorely tempted.  Grin

I noticed this year the Queen Vic in EastEnders is also decorated with Wilkinson decorations. (Some you can only buy there like the red lanterns) so its obviously the year of 1970s glittery decorations to be back.

I shall be getting one of the trees and asking for a key of D on Christmas day.
