Except for Series 1, Strictly has always traditionally finished at Christmas.  The final is on the Saturday before Christmas, while there's usually a Special of some sort on Christmas Day itself.  However, it did seem to start a little earlier last year.

The launch show is a new idea and is clearly to whet the public's appetite for October.  The first live show is on Friday 1.

I agree that last year's dragged, but that was partly because there were too many couples and also there was way too much publicity about it.  Last year's series was cursed and it seemed only Chris Hollins escaped unscathed!

By January/February it's the launch of Dancing on Ice!

Paul, As Aston has just said last years Strictly did end just before Christmas and it did start earlier than usual and I agree it did drag on too much because of too many couples.  But it dragged on for me because I lost interest near the beginning of the series.  I think Chris was a worthy winner though.

This Saturday is the launch show.  The BBC are milking it for all its worth, but too much can harm the show.  This years line-up is much "starrier" than last years so maybe thats the case.

It was the Find Dorothy programme that started late last year and continued into 2010! I got em mixed. And they voted off the best ones early on - typical!

Interesting photos! but who wants it to return to GMTV or TVAM?!!!! but a few old dears!!! Their audience was tiny and not attracting viewers. I'd keep it but with new presenters who are OVER the age of 40/45. Its the whole editorial part of the programme that is at fault; they're doing exactly the same things TVAM or GMtv have done - that's what makes it unwatchable. They need 'people' on the sofa with long interviews and probing questions!

Also just read it got the worst 'ranking' of any TV show across the week. Its rank is 50, (GMTV's was 70-odd).

LOL how fab, paying for two hopless presenters and a revamping it into a poor version of Rise (which was crap) and BBC News.

Only at ITV....

I know I said originally that it will be taken off air around Christmas time, but it needs putting out of its misery ASAP.  But remains to be seen whether anybody at ITV will take the bull by its horns and act ?

Let's put it this way, they've spent £10 million to get so far 100,000 more viewers. I'm not sure that works out at value for money.

GMTV had 700,000, Daybreak has 800,000
