I know we all love the serial! But let's face it, there have been some BAD moments! (as have most serials!). My earliest 'faux pas' (whatever) I remember is Shughie McFee playing the bagpipes in front of everyone in Reception and they were all clapping away. It was simply a tiny cassette-recorder playing from the kitchen that deceived them!!! Another one was with Jill and her knock-off . The scene was half-split between a normal set and a "Chroma Key" set in the background. Erm why? Jill had lovely blue rinses around her hair and body anyway!! Also, I remember Diane (in the early days), pointing someone to the direction of the gardens (from Reception) towards the 'fourth wall' when in fact it should have been out of the reception entrance (with 'Garden' signposted anyway!). They went towards Meg's sitting room! Most of them end up in there anyway!! Does anyone else remember any Cringey-moments?? Like - that shouldn't have happened?

Sue Nicholls' accent as Marilyn was truly horrific and that does make me cringe, even more so when you consider she does actually come from Walsall!
Chris No 1's acting was fairly poor (poor Freddie Foot) especially when he was paired up with Derek Farr.
Any time Carney coughed or laughed was quite cringeworthy but only because it reflected poor Jack Woolgar's illness.

I thought the scene when Annette Badland(who was in the early series of Bergerac)was in it,they didn't even gave the character a
name, just "Waitress",she was clearly filling in for Glenda or Jane, got have called her Ann or something!
The scene when Mrs Cunningham is on reception and there are some extras badly overacting one is the bouble of Big Foot from
The Six Million Dollar Man.(its the same episode when Meg looks at the paintings of Sandy and Jill as children with the sad music playing)

You don't look at the side salad dear when having the main course, so just look at me darlings and you'll all be fine.

Might be a bit of controversy here - but I thought Meg's last scene on that ship...looking out towards the porthole (during the 'sad theme') was a tad strained, with crocodile tears. Next minute - she's waving her arms away saying "Look at me - I'm Leaving for pastures new!"

There's the 76 Xmas episode when Ann Tirard(Granny Hawkins) has clearly forget the Xmas song she's meant to sing and is gently
promoted by Paul and Sue Hanson!

Shughie, Isn't this the episode where "Dawn" the waitress comes running into reception with some alful news about one of the guest or something? My most cringeworthy has to be Meg and David at the hospital, where she says those famous lines "They say that life must go on.................THWAT I THWANT TO KNOW IS THWY? Talk about overacting I actually felt sorry for her.

Yes Hampstead, the waitress is reporting Mrs Bailey is in a coma,Mrs Bailey isn't seen in Crossroads til later, she survives this first
coma.
The scene when Vera is talking to,dunno his name guy with sideburns who worked at the Post Office with Pat,when he slambs himself
against the wall is cringeworthy too.

I could never understand why the bar was so small in the sixties/early seventies. It was squashed in the far corner opposite the reception desk. It had two beer pumps, a selection (minimal) of bottles and seating for TWO people! When they eventually built a new bar next to Meg's private entrance - it looked quite impressive......it then disappeared after a few months never to be seen again!

Just as a thought - maybe it was because being a motel more than a hotel they supposed guests would sooner drink in their chalets than in the reception area so that they could unwind after their journeys?

Although I've not seen the scene Mike has told me about it; A television in the Brownlow set is clearly heard being dragged across the studio floor so it can be used in another set....

Remember those moments when someone was speaking to someone else on the phone. The 'other' persons voice was made to sound "telephonic" - but you could also hear their echoing voice from the set next door! Still on the telephone subject. I saw on one of the DVD's a split-screen phone conversation between two characters....one of the characters kept moving - so the poor director had to keep altering the 'split' from left to right throughout the conversation to keep both actors on the screen!

I know the episode you mean Shughie and the guy with sideburns is Don Arnold (Albert Shepherd). I also think that when Maryrose shot David Hunter in the office ,it was the noise of him falling over that got me going! (Or maybe that's how wood sounds when it falls over)

I love the fact they put a bathroom rug on the floor to show the blood on it as it wouldn't have been seen on the usual brown floor.
