Got the new Jon Pertwee Doctor Who DVD "Invasion Of The Dinosaurs" with recolourised part 1 yesterday.

On the commentary, they were discussing Brian Badcoe(Sam Hurst/Norton) whose in that story, one of the commentary team said he

was the only person to die in the Crossroads fire.

Brian Badcoe died in 92,just found out he was married to Hilda Braid, famous as Nana Moon in "Eastenders" and as Mum in "Citizen Smith".

Carmen Silveria is also in the Dinosaurs story, she was Miss Burney in Crossroads in 72,she tries to speak to Meg in Conventry but Meg is trying to deal with Sandy's accident,Carmen was also in the Hartnell story "The Celestial Toymaker".

Ok the Dinosaurs are rotten but  its a little gem of a story with the Doctor finding even a trusted friend can turn against him.

Interesting oorshughie.  And of course Hilda Braid was also in Crossroads as kitchen help Winnie Plumtree in 1977.  Unfortunately none of her episodes survive.

Oh, I didn't know Hilda was in Crossroads Maria,I always liked her.

I can remember from 77 the Lucy Hamilton/Richard Lord affair, sadly thats all wiped too.

Hilda's husband,Charlie in "Citizen Smith" was recast in the last series,Peter Vaughan left and Tony Steedman(Dr Butterworth) took

over.

Yes oorshughie, Hilda played Winnie as a kind of comedy character.  Everything she did always went wrong.  I can remember her a few times in Meg's sitting room explaining the latest happening.

For some reason she is a character that sticks in my mind, although 1977 is a favourite year of mine, some favourite storylines (notably Hugh and Vicky Lambert) so thats probably why.

Hilda's photo as Winnie is on the CAS page, listed as Kitchen Assistant, under Motel Staff.  Link for the page :

I know when she was Wolfie's Mum in Citizen Smith, the first time I saw her I can remember saying to my Mum "There's Winnie Plumtree from Crossroads".

I'd forgotten about Winnie Plumtree!  Ohh the memories.  They used to have such good character names in those days didn't they?
Amy Turtle, Vi Blundell, Avis Tennyson (no relation!), Mrs Addy, Myrtle Cavendish, Hilda Duvine (did we ever see her??), and the infamous Alice Loomis!  Such treasured characters  Smiley

PS: Must get that DW DVD - it was a classic story, with Sarah Jane in it. Shame about the crap dinosaurs....but it was almost forty years ago! I'll let them orf!

Yes Daniel, Hilda Duveen was seen on screen, played by Margery Field.  Margery was married in real life to Brian Kent, who played Dick Jarvis.

Its been mentioned on here ages ago.

I remember Winnie mainly for explaining her latest mishap to Meg in the sitting room.  (Don't ask me for any storyline, my memory isn't that good.  Smiley)
