Hmmm - never done a poll before. Hope I've done it right!

Well, my favourite HAS to be the original oboe & guitar version by Tony Hatch (with harp!). I quite liked the Paul McCartney version - for sad endings only! It didn't fit right with normal episode endings.
The piano theme was a refreshing change - and we got FULL on-screen credits and that Maestro car!!
King's Oak theme was pleasant - but more Emmerdale Farm than Crossroads!
Mark II was a nice refreshing version of the original.....but I missed the oboe bit of it!

Well, that's what I think - what's the rest of you gonna vote?

By the way - I didn't include the Mark 3 version - for obvious reasons!!! Cheesy

I like the original TV version and the MK2 one. But went with the original. The 1985 piano was nice, but was better suited as a new sad theme rather than a main theme.

I'll never forget that night at Crossroads, when you said 'all good things must come to an end'. And then you smiled. And I knew that you meant it.

I went for the original Tony Hatch theme too as it suits the show perfectly.

Hmm - 39 views and 7 votes?
I can't vote again, but my secondary one would be the piano theme. It was so refreshing to see Crossroads starting with a new revamped theme and a proper opening sequence.....and that effect of the blinds throughout (based on Nicola's office window! They were the 'in-thing' back then!)

Yep I've cast my vote, and it's for the original also.
However Xrds mark two in 2001 wasn't too bad.
If you wanted a vote for the worst one then it would have to be,without a doubt,Xrds King's Oak,that was dire.

That comes a very close second for me.  A very good arrangement of the theme bringing it into the 21st Century and yet making it still accessible.

I didn't think the Crossroads Kings Oak was a bad piece of music, I just hated it as it wasn't right for the programme. I could imagine an upmarket drama set in the country having that theme and it being very appropriate. Its just a mad idea to change a recognisable theme after so long, it took away the show's identity.

US daytime soaps are the only long running shows that occasionally changed their theme tune (that i'm familiar with). I used to watch Another World occasionally on Sky One and they went through a few different theme tunes on that show and I'm sure there were others. But that type of thing doesn't work in the UK.

Can you see anyone seriously suggesting as a programming meeting that the theme of any UK soap - even Hollyoaks - be changed and everyone thinking it a good idea? Smethurst was barmy and that's the proof of it.

Has to be the original theme tune for me.  Just hearing the tune brings out goosebumps.  Second would be the Paul McCartney theme.  I remember getting the Venus and Mars LP for Christmas and playing that track over and over!  Brilliant.

Tony Hatch is certainly in the lead isn't he so far? And rightly so. I must admit I didn't like his PYE record version - the one on the Wedding Album. It sounded a bit lame to me - the TV version was much more dramatic, and the drums were far more adventurous - and as for that piano-banging between guitar and oboe themes...well!!
