OK, right, Crossroads has been a good sensible, outstanding soap and had many serious issues involved in its many tales....but what of the most funny or ludicrous stories?  My favourites (off the top of my head) are:-
*Carlos & Wife ending up in a posh Girls School after an outing...he tries to fix the headmistresses heater  Roll Eyes
*Sandy & a farmer woman rescue a damsel in distress - who is dressed in Victorian garb... Huh
*Who is Harriet? Turns out to be a vintage car - and Harriet is also Holly Brown - pop-star in retreat!
*Who is wrecking Diane's flat? Slashing clothes? It's Diane! Steve Cater was the problem, and all was well again within 20 minutes!
*Mrs Addy, Avis Tennyson's landlady was supposedly psychic....so was a guest at the motel.....so was Benny!
*Malcolm Ryder came back 'from the dead', Meg lost her memory[in shock], he tried to kill her again!! (he got locked away in the end)
*Chris Hunter builds a recording studio in the basement to release Kate Loring's first single. Never to be seen again!
*THAT fire! From "one" firework destroyed the entire Reception,Kitchen, top floor and basement...and yet Meg's bit was untouched!
I could go on - and I will - there's the 80's onwards I can think of - PLUS the Mark 2 & 3 versions. I'm sure someone else can think of many more out of all those years!! Smiley

What about the oft-mentioned Amy Turtle mistaken as a Russian spy (never seen this storyline but its probably a joke or vastly exaggerated like Benny going for a spanner etc)

The one I thought was crackers at the time but actually proved to be a storyline before its time was when Jill's burglar Gary Corbett came back to work for her at Chimneys as part of his rehabilitation. I remember thinking that could never happen in a million years but as the years have gone by I have seen many examples where perpetrators of crime are encouraged to make restitution to their victims so the storyline was just at the forefront of new thinking at the time.

Meg and Hugh's wedding,Miss Tatum is mentioned several times but is clearly not there, why not say she was ill or something?

No-one in the dining room noticing there is no dining room, its a projection like some scenes of Diane and Josie at the Farm.

The Bermuda triangle of people like Jane Smith who disappear and are never mentioned again,Marilyn mark1 going from tall blonde

scrubber to small, darked hair posh woman.

Jill not mentioning Sam Hurst died in the Motel fire,Jill in  mark2 calling herself Jill Harvey, five minutes after her husband John Maddingham had died.

In one of the "Emergency Eps" when the guy threatens to jump from the roof of one of the chalets opp the kitchen,............which was no higher than about 10 foot, the most he could have done was sprain an ankle.
And I'm still left wondering how on earth Meg and co got Johnnie Patricks Piano into her living room for Christmas day. I'm sure they wouid have had one hell of a job even if they'd shoved it through her French Windows Cheesy And it was never seen there before!

Loved the way Chris's portrait was removed (Freddie Foot) prior to Stephen Hoyes debut as Chris Mark II. Errm - a complete body and personality transplant (just like Marilyn!)

What on Earth was that scene about in episode 1366 with Gloria Penn in the kitchen. A strange bloke called Humphrey turns up and says he's planted a bomb in the oven! He gets her to ring Sgt Tidmarsh....who tells her not to worry about it!  I don't think it was ever mentioned again!! Maybe it was just a "filler" scene  Huh
Interestingly - I noticed that Humphrey was played by David Trevena..... later to return as Sid Gilbert!

I'll never forget that night at Crossroads, when you said 'all good things must come to an end'. And then you smiled. And I knew that you meant it.

I think that the show was a lot more "escapist" in the Reg Watson era. Under Jack Barton the stories were more rooted in real-life. One that struck me as particularly far-fetched-at the start of the Barton era-was Meg's memory loss on the return of Malcolm Ryder. I know that there is such a medical condition(there was an example on Doc Martin recently),but it did seem bizarre at the time.

I mentioned Megs amnesia earlier....I remember her walking down the corridor with some weird wobbly bell music and clutching her head before entering the sitting room - and then asking Sandy "WHHat on earth are you doing in that wheelchair??" Sandy realised something was wrong and just said he's got a sprained ankle (!).
DJB - I think you're right in that Jack Barton kept it more real-life - although I did enjoy his 'Cotterill Xmas Flashback' .
But I don't recall anymore 'crazy Crossroads' moments in his era after that.  I may be wrong?? It was TOO sensible! Wink
