Crossroads has always been known for its memorable songs. My first memory was Stephanie De Sykes singing "Born With a Smile on my Face" to Sandy in that chalet! How cheesey was that? But it was GREAT!! Full orchestra and backing singers to boot! (off screen!)
Next was Stephanie again for Meg's Wedding, then it went on......
MY FAV's:-
KATE ROBBINS: Kate Loring : 'More Than in Love'
STEPHANIE DE SYKES: Holly Brown : 'Born With a Smile on My Face'
STEPHANIE DE SYKES: Holly Brown : 'We'll Find Our Day'
SIMON MAY: "Summer of my Life" (The Bob, Eileen and Hilary love triangle)
SIMON MAY: " Benny's Theme" - (The INSTRUMENTAL only!!)
PAUL McCARTNEY & WINGS : The Crossroads Theme

For me the only theme was THE original Tony Hatch Theme.  I quite liked the piano theme in the Bowman era, and absolutely HATED the Emmerdale thing in its dying period!
Does anyone else have any musical memories?

Mine is `The Girl That I Marry sung by John Bentley.

I said this in a thread started some months back.  There are a few other comments which may be of interest from other members.

I'll highlight it.

I'll never forget that night at Crossroads, when you said 'all good things must come to an end'. And then you smiled. And I knew that you meant it.

I wish there was a clip available of Marilyn singing "Where Will You Be" somewhere (the first Crossroads release). I've heard the song (on You Tube I think) - very cheesy....doesn't sound loike marilyoin at owl!!

That's funny Daniel because I think you can tell that its Marilyn singing it.  I like the fact that we can all interpret things in different ways,

Funny things are accents aren't they?  Look at Lesley Garret - she sings in a beautiful way - but talks dead common like a proper Yorkshire lass (like me, and you Maria! Not that we are 'common' - just from oop North!). Same with Jane MacDonald!

I may be in the minority, but I always loved the Paul McCartney version of the theme and remember that it was used as the permanent theme for a few months in 1975.

Of the chart hits that came from the show my fav has got to be "Summer of My Life" from Simon May.

No DJB, your'e not in the minority because I like the Wings version too.  I don't remember it being used permanently for those few months, but have course heard and read about it.

I liked it used for the sad/dramatic endings.

Yes,Maria,I  was always pleased when they used it.

I think the period it was used as the permanent theme was from around July to September 1975

Yes DJB - I remember liking that theme.....I believe it was meant to be the permanent theme to replace Tony Hatch's version. But viewers complained about it! So Tony's theme was brought back - and McCartneys theme was used for sad endings only! I believe they stopped using it after Meg left! (She liked it, apparently)

I agree that the "Kings Oak" theme used in the last months of the show was terrible.  Any version of the Tony Hatch theme I've quite liked, although the Wings one gets annoying after a while.  I like the bit in the original when whoever's playing the piano gets a little carried away and beats the living daylights out of it for three notes before the clarinet kicks in.

Freeman's utterly beautiful and rather easy-on-the-eye co-Bargee.

(I cannot accept any responsibility for Daniel's actions, especially when he upsets people)

Hah! Aston - I used to notice that too - the piano REALLY got a bashing between the guitar and oboe-thingy didn't it? I imagined a wild-haired old geezer thrashing his head around whilst doing that!  Grin
