                                                   LET'S TALK CROSSROADS

And a certain forum member did just that,in the letters page of TVTIMES back in 2002,they wrote,
"Despite all the big names in the new, improved Crossroads, like Jane Asher, and Kate O'Mara,I wouid've preferred to have seen Jill brought back from the dead or the return of the ever popular Benny. If ITV'1 spent more time trying to re-create the warmth and charm of the original Crossroads rather than bringing us a Dynasty look, the ratings wouid dramatically improve.

This was also that week's winner of the £25 STAR PRIZE!

Can anyone have a guess as to who it was? Or are YOU the mystery writer? I was quite surprised to find that I still had this copy.
Does anyone know the answer to this?

Yes oorshugie, the fans didn't matter did they? The programme - makers were so cock-sure what WE wanted to see! They had NO idea!!

And the viewing figures have never touched the high that Xrds received ever since!
My sister had a letter published back in 1970 concerning Sandy in Xrds,it was as to why he ALWAYS seemed to put his hand to the back of his head whenever he asked someone a question, whereas the other way around would have been understandable! She asked if he had a knot at the back of his head. She also won a cash prize Greg, however it was £24 less than yours.

I saw an interview with Jane Rossington on youtube, she hit the nail on the head when she said ITV wanted a soap about a four star

hotel, the name Crossroads attracted a lot of attention but they really didn't make it anything like the orginal.

Don't get me wrong, you have to move with the times, but Crossroads mark2 was like "Crossroads: The Teenagers",crammed full of

young Actors,to try and attract the viewers from the recently departed "Home And Away" from ITV.

Poor old Tony Adams and Jane Rossington, they way their characters were treated,I did like Kate Russell,Sheerie Hewson is always

funny and liked Rocky, enjoyed the Rocky twin storyline,a tribute to the orginal Crossroads with Carlos and his twin.

I agree shughie - Mark II was simply 'having a go' at attracting the yoof of then. They should have concentrated on the old birds of the series! Doris Luke was the only old character left, Jill was next (not long to be!). I liked most of the new characters in this series - especially the dastardly Jake Booth, and his innocent step-brother. The blond barman and the affair with Oona's daughter was quite good....and so was the dastardly murder of that guy off the roof of the Motel - which Phil Berry got blamed for.
Notice I miss a lot of names out here - I simply cannnot remember them! Says a lot doesn't it when I can remember most characters from the 70's!! Series III is the same - I can remember the main cast, but haven't a clue who the staff were!
I think there should be a DVD Box-set of Series 2 & 3 to finalise it all.......and preferably an insert at the end of the series saying "The End....or is it..Huh"
One never knows.....Russell T. Davies has been known for rejuvenating series of old!!! Grin
