Recently remembered watching a 1986 edition of Late Night Line-Up. It was a nightly late night discussion programme on television and the Arts which ran on BBC2 from 1964-72. They revived it for a week in October or November 1986 to tie in with the celebrations of the BBC's 60th Anniversary. One of the programmes that week was devoted to a discussion of the soaps of the era. Each of the five main soaps had a representative cast member. Gabrielle Drake was there for Crossroads,Bill Roache for the Street,Anna Wing-Eastenders,David Easter-Brookside and Jane Hutcheson for Emmerdale Farm. I recall Bill Roache defending Crossroads reputation.

Yes he did it again on ITV50 on the This Morning reports by saying it was difficult enough back in the 70s to do two episodes a week never mind four.

So he's good with Crossroads.

I'll never forget that night at Crossroads, when you said 'all good things must come to an end'. And then you smiled. And I knew that you meant it.
