I like it,one of the episodes in season2 suprisingly deals with Laverne thinking she's pregnant and in a later show,Laverne's fireman

boyfriend is killed on duty.

It was a good show.

"Oz" The complete series starting from ep 1. I never understood why when Channel Four first showed this series, they always put it on at around 11.45 at night. Huh What I consider to be the far more brutal male version of "Within These Walls" But the guv'nor of this prison just ain't no Googie Withers, and that's a fact!

I never watched that 'Oz'.  I've been brung up on Within These Walls and Cell Block H!  Sounded a bit rough to me. Was that the one starring Channing Tatum? Saw him the other night in 'GI Joe;The Rise of Cobra'  Oooh! Wink

I missed out on Within These Walls due to not being born yet!  However, I've been catching up on DVD and it's a really good series.  I've got all five series now and I've watched the first two.

Yes Aston Cross I like WTW too, although Googie's my fav Governor, glad the kept the series going after Googie left.

Love how Helen Forrester rubs the staff all up the wrong way, when she arrives in series 4.

I MUST hunt out these WTW DVD's!  I saw it originally (Unlike young ASTON!!) every Friday night! It was never repeated either. I'm surprised ITV 3 haven't done it! Maybe something to do with copyrights and all that.
I loved the Googie era especially.
Didn't like Helen Forrester at all.....but she mellowed at the end.

Anyway my DVD for tonight (as there's nothing on TV) is going to be in bed on my old VHS: Murder Ahoy with Margaret Rutherford as Miss Marple! I love a good old B&W movie to fall asleep to!!  Smiley

Oh Daniel 10 out of 10 for good taste.

Love Margaret Rutherford as Miss Marple.

When Joan Hickson is one of the Miss Marple films as a cook, she reminds me of Doris's sister the horrible Edna in Crossroads!

I believe it got a repeat on Granada Plus over 10 years ago.  I got chatting to a guy who'd been really into Prisoner and he said he'd caught a few episodes, but wasn't impressed by them.  Worryingly, he also said they were made on film!  From what I've seen, WTW was made on tape, with location inserts on film.  All five series are available and at the moment Series 1 is going for £18 on Amazon.  Sounds like Series 4 is going to be an interesting watch when I get to it!

I THOUGHT Simon McCorkindale was in that series at some point (I thought I'd imagined it!). Thank you ooershughie for confirming it!
Did the series come to a natural end or was it just dropped? I suspect the ratings wouldn't have been as high as in Googie's day.

Daniel,it does seem to end naturally with the death of a much loved character and Mrs Armitage ready to retire to look after her husband.

It says on the DVD  box of series5 that it wasn't shown in all ITV regions,Simon McCorkindale is  in both series 4 and 5.

That's nice that it ended properly. I don't remember - think I was working nights by then (and no VCR in those days). Must get the box-sets!

Tonights choice of viewing in bed on the old VCR is : War of the Worlds (the original)
(I've got a DVD and TVR in the lounge....but I like to go to bed with a good old-fashioned movie!)

For some reason, Series 5 was only broadcast on Anglia, LWT and Southern.
