I have just discovered a few photographs of Margaret John (Marian Owen) on Digital Spy as they have selected her as an "Icon". Unfortunately they don't bother to mention her Crossroads appearances when recalling her long career, but there are some nice photos of her. IMDB doesn't do her Crossroads career justice either as it says she was in the show from 1978-79...try until 1985!

She was always one of my favourite characters and I remember being amazed at how many times she got to reappear in the show. I always looked forward to her appearances. I think she first appeared in 1978 and she was still there for a few episodes after both Glenda and Kevin (Marian's nephew) left in 1985. I'm sure if totted up she got more episodes than some so-called 'regulars'. I guess being a doctor's receptionist helped, it was probably easier to keep her on standby and bring her back than get someone new in each time, especially as they knew she'd always deliver the goods.

I always thought the character of Marian Owen was one of those nice characters, a character whom others could chat to, confide in if they wished.  Margaret played her well.

I was watching an old Doctor Who episode the other night - Margaret John was in that too. She played a granny who lost her face!

I'm afraid Digital Spy is run by kids who go off WIKI for information and IMDB. They should stick to the copy and paste news out of the tabloids, its what they do best LOL.

Though I think DS is successful only really for its forums they're pretty good, if over moderated.

I wasn't sure what the feeling about Digital Spy was around here ...hence why I didn't post the link in my original message! Didn't want to offend - I half suspected I might have been breaking some unwritten rule even my mentioning it! As you say they do have successful forums and they have a lot of information, though its not always properly researched or presented.

I do find for soaps SoapChat.net has a bit more quality about it. Its not all kids wooping over teens on screen.

Sad news indeed, always such a lovely character in what ever she acted in and our dear Mrs Owen.

Just saw the news on the BBC website.  Very sad to hear.

No, you didn't mention that ATV Today has the story, but maybe people automatically assumed that ATV would be covering it anyway.   Just seen the photo of Margaret and Tony, very nice.
