Interesting quote from Victoria in a BBC interview about Mrs Overall. On first seeing Acorn Antiques in the mid-1980s, I recall thinking that Mrs O's look and mannerisms were based on Mavis Hooper and her position as char at the shop on Amy Turtle.

But Victoria has said differently to the BBC, in response to the question: So was Mrs Overall based on Noel Gordon from Crossroads?

No, if it was based on anyone, it was based on Amy Turtle or Mrs Mac from Take The High Road. It was a homage to Crossroads but also to a terrible radio series called Waggoners Walk which was on then.

Mrs Mack! I'd forgotten her. First appeared a couple of years into the High Road saga, usually accompanied by fellow gossip Mr Murdoch...

Unsung heroine, it would seem!

Yes, she was called Florence! A lovely comic touch!

I think that she's said elsewhere that Bo Beaumont-the actress who plays Overall-is based on Nolly.

Particularly where she's interviewed by the press as she is sacked, wearing a headscarf and sunglasses saying things like "Does a dog expect to be kicked?" and "I am a huge huuuge star!" Genius.

That was like an electric shock flashback to 1981 when I saw it!

I'm waiting for some clever soul to stick the two clips together and put them on YouTube.

This is repeated tonight on BBC2 at 10.00 p.m.

Part of the Radio Times write-up says :

"Featuring famous sketches - including Acorn Antiques, the much loved Crossroads spoof"
