Just found that when ATV went 'seven days' in the Midlands, they had an advertising session, and it promoted ATV as a very midlands broadcaster.

One of the adverts is "The Midlands is Crossroads", there are others and also one that lists a couple of shows together with pretty midland images.

Nice. Kiss

Its true though isn't it, all these years later.  Whenever you think of a programme from the Midlands you automatically think of Crossroads.  Well, I do anyway  Cheesy

Maria, I also think of Pebble Mill and of course the programmes produced there (the interiors) like:All Creatures, Howard's Way (Never watched it) and The Archers used to come from there, didn't it?

It is and that was another one that had its frontage at Pebble Mill with interiors done in the studio (at the mill) you can see the location on googlemaps  (satellite) and its all gone.

Yes, of course when you think of `The Midlands', Pebble Mill and Doctors do spring to mind.  But those are BBC, that was why I didn't comment on those.  When `The Midlands' and ATV/ITV are mentioned my mind always conjures up Crossroads.  Smiley

Anyone know what happened to Presenter Wendy Jones ?  I know she later transferred to Central News.  Just wondering.

The national advert is a poem about the Midlands, but the picture is, well it seems to me, to be a bear having a S**t in the woods.

Charming.

During the latter few years Wendy always wore a wig as she had cancer I believe. I'm not sure what happened to her after she left Central. I fear the worst  Sad

SOTV, Thanks very much for this reply, much appreciated.

Whenever I have read articles about former ATV presenters, Wendy has never featured, never mentioned.  I have seen her in an old ATV group photo but that's been it.  Now I know why.

I'll remember her mainly for the brilliant Format V interview with Noele Gordon.

Yes I was looking for her a while ago and couldn't find any information. Mainly for the Format V stuff, she seemed to have some nice stories about ATV and Nolly. Would have made a lovely interviewee.

Well lets hope she just retired from the limelight as so many do and is fine.

Wendy did seem so natural on Format V.  I loved the little story about her and Nolly wearing the same colour dress (bluey/green) for Format V and the Producer insisted that one of them change.  Wendy was going to change with Nolly being the big star and all that,  but Nolly said "I'll do it".  Shows you how unstuck-up Nolly was.

Whenever I hear that ATV fanfare, just three programmes spring to mind - Crossroads, General Hospital and Pipkins. Happy days!

I forgot to add the promos were from 1968, so way before Doctors and all the shows Paul listed.

And also since this topic was started I've been reading IBA info and things Ned Sherrin noted, interesting ATV always saw the region as the runt of the network and would have chopped off Lew Grade's arm to get London weekdays.
