Just got myself a copy of Dorothy Hobson's book, and on page 41 it says:

(speaking about motels)

I think there were about three in England at the time, because the one we used initially to establish the exteriors was in fact in Nuneaton.

Such a shame CAS didn't grab her when she was alive we did do the search for her a year or so ago and was told by her (was it niece) she'd died in the mid-90s.

Well to my mind then - how about Longshoot initially - then Baschurch from early 65?
Or maybe the chalet blocks in Longshoot alongside the college?

I guess without any production documents or recollections from Reg Watson we may never know

Yes I would say from what she says the motel carpark and chalets were Longshoot from the start. Seems once the show took off and was commissioned longer they added more of the village and in came Baschurch and the college.

Then they got round to replacing that original reception as seen in 126 with something a bit more sturdy by mid-1965.
