In the scale of newspaper reports despite the re-jigged quote its a leaning on a Crossroads positive article rather than negative. Always nice to see some facts added rather than just wobbly walls.

Not a bad article, although I had to laugh at the bit "Crossroads once threatened to topple Coronation St". We know of course it did topple Coronation St in the National ratings for 1976/77.

Mike do you have a larger copy of the Alan Coleman image where he's directing a scene outside the motel... I wouldn't mind trying to match up some brickwork...

they looked to have a rather modern metal shed behind one of the blocks, maybe something has been demolished. There certainly seesm something has been removed behind the old house and I can't think why I know that now, was it to do with a road disapearing or path. Memory terrible thing.

The only place the comments were made about it been kept a secret incase fans were up for a mad dash to the place was this forum and on the 'ATV Today' news page. So they've either also looked here, or looked over there. The Mirror recently nicked a story off the ATV page and passed it off as their own exclusive. Worrying if the press are looking about. |

The story is also in this weeks issue of `The Weekly News' on sale today.
With the headline "End of the Road for soap double" within `News in Brief' the small article says :
The building that secretly doubled for the Crossroads Motel for 16 years has been uncovered - just months before it's due to be demolished !
The image of the motel that appeared in the title sequence of the programme between 1975 abd 1981 was actually a teaching block at Walford and North Shropshire College which, at the time the popular soap was on the air, was called Shropshire Farm Institute.
The location of the building was kept secret from fans because of fears they would cause disruption.
However, it was recently discovered by John Drury, from Sheffield, a member of the Crossroads Appreciation Society.
He said "Once I found it, the site manager showed me round. It's such a shame it's going".

With EastEnders, X Factor and Big Brother being recently voted "worst programmes ever made" by readers of the Radio Times Smooth Radio conducted a short report for the North East station.
No public said Crossroads, but the DJ Paul Wappat said that "The new Crossroads has to be a contender surely? I didn't mind the original with Miss Diane and Shughie Mcfeee, but the new one was pretty dire..."
Not the kind of mention one likes, but from my POV, at least he likes the original. I assume he means Yvon's version anyway.
