I've started transfering all my C2001 cuttings into pdf documents - partly so I don't lose them - but partly so that I can index their contents more fully. It may be worth cataloguing those in the same way

The same "location" appears on the backcloth in 1965 and 1979 - maybe the trees are slightly bigger...

That picture of Bernard in his chalet always made me cringe. Because he was in chalet 14 directly opposite the reception entrance!

Yes you'd think for that Chalet they'd at least tilt the blinds somewhat to hide the outside.

A brief follow up to this thread.

The people at Oak Creative (who now occupy the site) have sent some great images of the motel as it was... Mike if you're still interested in a motel website - may be a good place to start!

They also happen to produce the Jenner website and all they know is that someone at Jenner told them that Crossroads had been filmed there.

The Oak Creative people have been very helpful, and today I got an email from the Jenner Group to say that they were going on "local gossip" but were still hopeful that the site had been used. They certainly think it was used in Poirot at one stage and if anyone can help they would be really grateful!

Anyway - they have slightly changed the wording on their site to...

The Royal Oak Motel, Europe’s first motel was built by C Jenner & Son at Newingreen Nr Hythe and is believed to be the location of the first ever scene in the television programme Crossroads.

Anyway - thats where we're at with this investigation!

I've found the photo I was on about its from an advert for the motel!

I knew that wood paneling looked familiar.

Rather sad to read the reason it was demolished was because it wasn't deemed repairable. I didn't realise you couldn't replace wood frames!
