What I don't get is why they couldn't get carpet/mats large enough to accommodate the space - Diane's floor in the 80s is a good example as is the Brownlow's hallway. Ah well. We adore it anyway.

Maybe they sometimes made the sets smaller if they were in 2? Strange I guess. I just guess the set people would have said doing four episodes its too much faff to keep changing flooring, especially as some of it would be changed in the commerical break, which wasn't long really. 45 minutes to record an episode. If part one went tits up and htey had to do it again. That'll be a b ugger.

I think it was one of the Reg Watson written eps and a cut from a scene to Meg's sitting room and we can see Amy and Meg standing outside the french windows either looking at a monitor or a floor manager and they stand for about three seconds before moving!

I know the episode you mean Paul, it was one of Reg's episodes. Amy was supposedly pursuing Meg through the garden because she was asking for time off, time that was owed to her, because she wanted to go drinking with Miss Tatum and others.

Just watching some more of my box-set (a disc that I missed). Gosh look at the time it's amost 2 o'clock!! Good job it's my day orf tomorrow. Anyway -just noticed a BIG booby!! Bernard and Helen Booth have been allocated Chalet 14 opposite the kitchen and Reception . And yet the internal of their chalet shows an outside scene through their window of open space and chalets opposite. Shouldn't it be a brick wall?

The actor who played Wilf Harvey is particularly bad, for reacting late to his cue,you see him several times frozen as a scene starts or looking at the camera when a scene finishes, classic.

Yes I had notice he doesn't have Tony, Jane, John or Noele's ability to carry on, he just stops when his script ends. Where as the others carry on regardless.

Not Crossroads, but watching 'top 50' soap families, there was a fab scene with Hilda and Stan Ogden in Corrie, he shut the door lightly and the wall wobbled madly. Reminded me of Ted Hope's shop...

I saw some 70s Corrie when Granada Plus ran it in the 90s.
Albert Tatlock's daughter,Beattie arrives and says to Ken Barlow,he has shaving foam on his face, his face is totally clear.
Saw Alf frozen at the start of a part2 til he got his cue,so it wasn't just Crossroads.

There is the story of a floor manager been seen crawling across the floor in one scene in Corrie but I've never seen it. I know one of the early 1970s Pantos has a fair few problems within the episode, boom mic hitting a studio light which makes a noise and also reflects a bright flash in a mirror. Also a sound issue apparently of cast being heard too loud when they're not supposed to be heard.

I have the episode on DVD where Val Barlow dies,at the start of the episode Albert says goodbye to Valerie, leaves her flat, then as the scene continues you can clearly see Albert walking away at the side of the set.

There's a great blooper on the 1973 volume in one of Elsie Tanner's last episodes before she left for the first time. Elsie's standing in the Snug in the Rovers, then goes through to the Public. As she opens the door, she stands back, but the camera operator doesn't move back to accommodate her and she ends up practically pinned between door and camera! The look on Pat Phoenix's face afterwards is priceless!

According to the BFI'S book on Coronation Street the programme was recorded in the same manner as Crossroads until 1974.However,in his autobiography Bill Podmore said that he made the change in recording method-and he became producer in 1976.I'm inclined to believe the latter,as the programme becomes much tighter and more polished from '76 onwards.
