My eye was often on that filling cabinet, Heathbury! in the early 80s the walls/area outside the office door (including the new garage set in 83) often go walk abouts; one week there's a corridor, the next week there's no corridor but a door which then vanishes.

No fluffs or mistakes as such but the Christmas episodes are so stiff and awkward. Everyone being pleasent, bits of adlibs and false laughter.

When there's drama in Crossroads it's always handled brilliantly well for a soap (yes there were some fluffs, hesitant lines and mis-cues), but everyone acting terribly jolly seems decidely 'empty' to me. It looks as though they aren't relaxed enough.

I can't explain it any better, but does anyone else see what I mean?

Joy Andrews comes out a lot better, because of the sadness around her being alone at Christmas and her insistance that she prefers it that way, until persuaded otherwise. So I think it's the ensemble cast labouring with portraying 'happy' and 'jolly' when they really weren't (obviously, they were working).

I'll shut up now ....  Roll Eyes
I rather like the existing Christmas episodes which are on DVD.Funny how back then the Christmas episodes of all the soaps were among the least eventful of the year plot-wise,whereas nowadays they're the most eventful.Personally,I prefer the old way as they're more seasonal and true to life.

I think that's because Christmases were more traditional family gatherings. And the TV, if it was on, was in the background - so no heavier storylines were needed. Also Crossroads had an audience of people on their own or old and couldn't get out. So it's very likely Crossroads became good company for those people. It's rather sad but probably true.

In 1975,there was talk of Hugh having a heart attack on Christmas Day,but they postponed the attack so's not to upset people at Christmas!

Yes there was, I read that too.  Hugh had his heart attack after Boxing Day instead.

Christmas was always lovely at Crossroads.  They didn't do anything special (storywise) they just did things that normal people do. (although I don't go to church!?).  I remember when Jill Harvey trips over Sarah Janes toy or something in Meg's sitting room, and they all carry on don't they? (Meg probably looked indignant though  Grin).

1980 was pretty miserable, though - despite Sandy organising a disco at the motel, Jill's love life was extremely fraught and Reg Cotterill had a miserable flashback about Alison's mother, who was played by the same actress as Alison if I remember rightly!

Oh I will have to look at that one again more closely,as I thought she hurt her back on the table or something,I think I remember that stan saw her do it.
I also seem to remember my grandmother wondering why Meg was speaking a bit like Bette Davis when she was in that mink coat.

In Episode 3104, just before Chrisssssss re-appears at the Motel, Adam tells David that he's going to see "Meg's councillor, Nephew Jarvis".  The line should have been "Meg's nephew, Councillor Jarvis" or "Meg's councillor nephew, Brian Jarvis".

In the next episode, at the end of the scene where Meg walks in to the sitting room and sees Chrissssss for the first time, there's a very clumsy edit just before the mix to the next scene.  Momentarily, Stephen Hoye is clearly looking in the direction of the door, before a jump cut occurs and he suddenly looks more towards the camera for the reaction shot.

Happy New Year to all, from Freeman's utterly beautiful and rather easy-on-the-eye co-Bargee.

(I cannot accept any responsibility for Daniel's actions, especially when he upsets people)

Just watched an episode from late 1981 where the camera bashes into the office desk LOL.

Jane Rossington and Sue Lloyd carry on as normal.

In 1983, a policewoman called Annette Halls features in the plot for a few weeks, a friend of Sharon, she's also investigating a poison pen letter at the motel. Ms Halls's mother is awaiting a hip operation, and in one episode Sharon says "Give your love to my mother!"
