What another entertaining home-video !  I can see that you were engrossed in Crossroads enough to do a school project on Noele Gordon and the fire. I too kept some Press Cuttings, it meant alot to me at the time. So sad. |

I know what you mean Maria - I remember being quite traumatised by the whole sacking of Meg. She had been a big part of my viewing life and to find out that she had been axed in such a way, left a long impression on my young mind. One of my other videos goes on about Brookside press cuttings, I can't remember which video episode though!!  |

Yes, I was so saddened/outraged I rang up ATV the next day (Tues) and expressed my feelings asking `why' ?
And after reading in the Press that letters of complaint were flooding in to Charles Denton, I sent my own letter one week later. I never got a reply, never expected one. I thought at the time it would go straight into his filing cabinet, to be filed with the rest of the letters, his bin !
Charles Denton was quoted in the Press saying that he never knew there were so many Crossroads fanatics. According to him, I am a fanatic, but so be it, I don't regret for one minute for I did ! I like thousands of others was trying to save Noele her job, but minds were already made up unfortunately.

Well I think it proved how popular she was still, which was no bad thing. And of course lead to TV-am and the theatre work so she did what she wanted.

Sadly when they tried to bring Noele back in 85,she was too ill and wasn't with us long after.

And like i've said on here before, i still say the sheer shock of being sacked,after all she had done for ATV, indeed ITV led to her illness in the first place.
BTW what does Denton do these days,or has he done us all a favour & retired,does anyone know?

Well he poo poos the illness was his and Margaret Mathesons doing, but I've had medical experts suggest otherwise.

That was really good,Noele's axing as big news at the time,glad she wasn't killed off in the fire,least we saw Meg in Venice for two episodes.

Does anyone know why Barton decided to bring Meg back for Venice? was it partly guilt? I never believed his response to questions about why she was dropped. The subtext seems clear!

They always got on, they still did afterwards, he invited her to his leaving party and Bowman had her at the Xmas 1984 party.
So I don't think he disliked her, but I think he liked the idea of not having her in it to see how it could be different.
