Gives us 'Who' fans a glimmer of hope that there are MORE stray tapes out there somewhere!  Grin

Paul Vanezis is a producer at the BBC and he's spearheading (not from space  Wink) the search for lost episodes of Dr Who, and other shows, around the world.  He's been following the paper trails of where various episodes were sent to and contacting the various broadcasters to see what they hold in their archives.  I don't know if he's contacting known private film collectors, though.  He certainly didn't contact the guy who had these two particular episodes as this particular return just happened through a chance encounter.

Of course it also gives us hope darlings that our very own beloved midlands serial will benefit from future such finds....my first episode would be a sinfully wonderful discovery.

Thats great news,I like the TARDIS crew of the 1st Doctor and Steven and Vicki.

Any missing Hartnell/Troughton story found episode is most welcome, heres hoping it leads to more discoveries.

Has anyone else enjoyed the last two series?  I haven't. Nothing against Matt Smith......well it is actually.  He's a very good Doctor - but his mannerisms are now becoming a farce. I don't like the story-arc idea, have never warmed to Amy, and as for River Song - AAAGH! Can't they move on please? Let's have a fresh look for the new series (or 'season' as they like to call it now!).

I've said since DR Who came back he's been a clown and he never was a clown.

I've stopped watching it, although its not on at the moment I know.  I can't get into the storylines although the odd episode has been ok.  But they are few and far between for me.

Strangely, I've been enjoying Dr Who more with Matt Smith than David Tennant.  Towards the end, Tennant was really annoying and far too human, but Smith's Doctor is more alien.  There'll be a change of direction in this upcoming series ("season"?!  puh-leeeze!!!) and it looks like there'll be smaller stories and fewer arcs.

I've recently started watching from the very beginning, as in William Hartnell.  It's hard to believe it's the same programme - and the same person!   Cheesy

The Jon Pertwee and early Tom Baker years are the best in my opinion though I do like the Hartnell stuff because of the imgination there. The production team weren't afraid to try new things even if the budget couldn't stretch. In some ways the new series could learn from it; get away from bloody Earth and invasion of the week stories!

I'm currently working through The Daleks (1963-4) and the imagination is really good.  As you say, Douggie, it definitely makes a change from "invasion of the week" type stories.  Baaaaarbara's scream at the end of Episode 1 of the story is truly chilling.  (OK, it was enhanced at the time, but still...)

That first dalek story is one of my faves too. I can't imagine being gripped by a 25 minute once-week-episode for six weeks nowadays. And they weren't exactly fast-paced action were they? But they hooked you from the first scenes. It was more sci-fi melodrama wasn't it!
I prefer watching the old classics all in one go now  Grin
(although I may have to watch 'The War Games' in two or three chunks, when I get it!!)
